Wash completes sweep of Iowa City, stuns West

Would the real Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors please stand up?

After shocking City High, and then losing big to Linn-Mar in consecutive weeks, the Warriors scored early and often to knock off 9th ranked West High 66-37 at Trojan Field.

The Warriors got the scoring started in the first, when on fourth and goal, David Tann took the option pitch and walked in to the endzone.  And that was just a sign of things to come.

Iowa City West quarterback Charles Rogers answered with a spectacular 16 yard run to tie things at 7-7.

Cedar Rapids Washington then blew the game wide open behind its running attack.  William Griffin turned a counter play into a 53 yard touchdown run down the sideline to make it 14-7 Warriors in the first quarter.

In the second frame, Tann broke a 33 yard run to the endzone, followed by a Nick Cain pick six.  The Warriors rattled off 24 unanswered to take a 31-7 second quarter lead.

West struck on the final play of the half with a 43 yard touchdown from Rogers to Jeremy Morgan.  It was 31-13 at the half.

But West had no answer on defense.  The Warriors scored at will in the second half, notching their fifth win of the season.
