DCI investigating Iowa County woman's death

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is looking into the death of an Iowa County woman.

At the request of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa County Sheriff's Office arrested Crystal Hawkins, 26, at her home in North English on a warrant that required her to serve 30 days in jail.

Hawkins was brought to the jail just after 1:00 p.m., but became sick before she was booked in.  She was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and admitted.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office then got a court order to release her from custody until her treatment was complete.

On Tuesday, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office was notified that Hawkins died while being treated.

Both sheriff's offices asked the DCI to investigate her death.

An autopsy was performed on Wednesday, but final results will not be available for a month or two, pending the results of lab tests.
