The West Delaware Hawks are out to a 6-1 record and ranked 5th in class 3A. Led by the backfield duo of Trey Mac Taggart and Sam Lahr the Hawks are poised for a postseason push. After a one point loss to Western Dubuque in game two, the Hawks have rolled 5 consecutive wins, winning by an average of 26 points per contest.
"Now it's a group effort, were playing great defense right now and we just continued to improve and gain depth. I think that's been the key for us," said Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch
Leading the charge for the Hawks this season is senior signal caller Trey Mac Taggert and behind him senior Tailback Sam Lahr. Mac Taggert has nearly 1,000 yards passing completing 60 percent of his passes but the dual threat QB can beat you on the ground as well having rushed for over 650 yards rushing. Meanwhile Lahr continues to be a workhorse for the Hawks racking up nearly 1,000 yards on the ground in route to consecutive wins over ranked opponents.
"Opposing teams have the option of trying to stop me or trey and it's tough to stop us both," said co-athlete of the week Sam Lahr.
"Everyone stepped into their rolls good and everyone is doing their jobs. Were having a lot of fun," said co-athlete of the week Trey Mac Taggart
After a loss in the postseason semi-final game last season the Hawks have the experience and drive to get back to the dome.
