Heating assistance applications now available

Operation Threshold in Waterloo is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  Elderly or disabled residents can currently apply for LIHEAP heating assistance.  Starting Nov. 1, the general public can begin applying for assistance.  Applications will be taken through April 30, 2012.

Each applicant will need to provide personal identification, copies of social security cards for all household members, proof of all household members' gross income for the past three months, in addition to copies of their most recent heating and electric bills.

LIHEAP is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights/DCAA, and has been established to help qualifying economically disadvantaged Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs. LIHEAP is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs, but can provide supplemental assistance based on factors like total household income and size, household dwelling type and type of heating fuel.

For further information regarding LIHEAP assistance, contact Operation Threshold at (319) 291-2065.
