Two-year old dies in farming accident

A two-year old boy died in Grant County on Monday as a result of a farming accident.

Deputies were called to a farm on Kussmaul Road in Mount Hope Township on Monday evening for a report of a farming accident.

Sgt. Travis Klass says Levi Fisher and four of his younger children were doing field work when two-year old Solomon fell out of the wagon and was run over.

Fisher told deputies that he jumped out of the cart when he saw cattle getting out into the field, leaving Solomon, his eight-year old sister in the cart and his four and six-year old brothers in the wagon hitched to the cart.

Deputies say the team of horses pulling the cart and wagon continued back to the farm on their own when Solomon lost his grip on the hand rails and fell off the cart.  They say either the steel cart wheel or steel wagon wheel ran over Solomon.  He died from his injuries at 10:00 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
