The homeless experience

What would it be like to be homeless? That's what some Eastern Iowa High School Students are finding out tonight. About 40 Don Bosco students are learning about the homeless experience at the school overnight.

The students were each given a dollar to buy dinner and breakfast, and then had to build cardboard box homes to sleep in.

They learned about the causes of homelessness in our country, and also homelessness in third world countries.

"We don't always really realize that homelessness is an issue in our community, and so it raises the kid's awareness of what actually is happening in our area. I don't think we realize that homelessness happens in Waterloo-Cedar Falls, not just big cities like Chicago and Minneapolis," said Kim Swanson-Huff, the school's campus minister.

This is the second year Don Bosco has offered this experience to students.
