Volunteers plant trees at Habitat homes

Volunteers helped make new houses feel a little more like homes today - thanks to trees.

Trees Forever and Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity helped organize 10 tree plantings Saturday morning in Cedar Rapids.

More than 30 volunteers attended a brief training session before digging holes and planting trees in a new homeowner's yard.

The work goes a long way for the neighborhood.

"Trees can really bring a feeling of regrowth, and renewal and it really completes a house and completes a neighborhood," said Karen Brook of Trees Forever.

The event is funded by Trees Forever's Alliant Branching Out program.

This is the 3rd year the 2 non-profit organizations have teamed up.
