Occupy Wall Street protest comes to Iowa City

Protests are springing up across the country to call attention to economic inequalities and general Wall Street practices. On Friday night, a large protest came to eastern Iowa.

Hundreds of demonstrators filled College Green Park in downtown Iowa City to fight corporate control and greed. Many protestors say they have no plans to leave the park.

Originally there was speculation the large group would be violating an ordinance by staying, but the Iowa City Attorney's Office issued a press release saying the gathering was okay based on a spontaneous event exception.

Demonstrators hope to make their message heard.

"Every face counts. Every person that stands up and says enough is enough," said Gary Beall of Iowa City. "I'm calling on the corporations to be a little bit more responsible to our society and treat everyone a lot more equally than they are."

Similar demonstrations are expected in Des Moines, Mason City, and Fairfield.
