Butler County asking for farmers help in fire control

With winds forecasted to reach 40-50 m.p.h. on Friday, the Butler County Emergency Management Agency is asking for farmers to help in fire control.

Mitch Nordmeyer, the Butler County EMA Coordinator, is asking that farmers have some type of tillage equipment hooked to a tractor and available in case of a field fire.

"Farmers will be the first line of defense in the event of a field fire today and may be the only hope of slowing down or stopping a fire with these winds," Nordmeyer said in a written statement. "Fire crews will need all the help they can get!"

Nordmeyer says they have had fires every day this week in Butler County and they are trying to be as vigilant as possible.

He adds that they realize this may be a bit of an imposition to area farmers, but with the fire danger in the extreme category, everything possible needs to be done to be ready in the event of a fire.
