WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police have taken into custody two men involved in a Thursday morning assault.

Zachary Ackerman, 25, and Matthew Stacey, 27, were charged yesterday with willful injury.  Ackerman was also charged with 2nd Degree Burglary.

Waterloo Police say a 61-year-old car accident witness was beat up.

Captain Tim Pillack says a car lost control at the intersection of Lafayette and Nevada Streets around 12:11 a.m. and hit a city bench.

A 60-year-old man who saw the accident, called police as the car was leaving the scene.

Pillack says the man followed the car until it broke down at Lafayette and Indiana Streets.

Pillack says that when the man told the driver and passenger that he had called the police, the two men assaulted him and ran from the area.

The man was taken to Allen Hospital.

Pillack says police impounded the car and are still looking for the men who were inside.
