Dad on leave from war surprises daughters

Sisters Kaylee and Kaitlyn Roethler have been missing their dad, Sergeant First Class Tony Roethler, for eight months now. In fact, on Tuesday, Kaylee said something pretty powerful in class earlier in that day.

"I said I wished he came home," Kaylee Roethler said.

What Kaylee Roethler didn't know was she was going to get a surprise of a lifetime.

Thanks to help from the New Hampton Elementary administration and staff, the girls's dad surprised them while they were at recess.

Roethler is on leave from a tour in Afghanistan with the United States Army. He admitted he was a little nervous for Tuesday's surprise.

"Sick to my stomach. I didn't know how they were going to react," SFC Tony Roethler, U.S. Army said.

The surprise was everything they had hoped for, they said, and now this family has time to spend together.

"Just family time. That's it no plans. Just one day at a time. I figured I only have 15 days so I need to make the best of every one of them so no plans," Tony Roethler said.

Tony Roethler and his wife Lacey have four daughters in all. They all received dog tags that say "With love from Dad. U.S. Army Afghanistan 2011."
