Hawks will be tested against Penn State defense

Fresh off the bye week, the Hawkeyes get set to kick off the Big Ten portion of their schedule in Happy Valley.  While Penn St may have some question marks on the offensive side of the football, defensively, they'll be strong like usual.

"They have depth in that front, good size, athleticism.  They play well and they have got a lot of depth," said Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz.  "And then the veteran players in the back end, they are giving up 12 points a game as a result of it.  That's not new."

"They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of guys that have played in that system for a couple years now especially in their secondary, all four of them are really experienced," said Hawkeye quarterback James Vandenberg.  "They've got great players and great schemes so just as a whole, they're not going to give up easy plays."

"They're always going to be Penn St," said Hawkeye wide receiver Marvin McNutt.  "They always fight to the ball.  They play good sound defense.  They play together and that's something that helps them.  We just hopefully have got to execute better than them on Saturday."

Whatever the reason, the Hawkeyes have had tremendous success against Penn State in the last decade, winners of three straight and eight of their last night in the series.
