UPDATE: Anamosa officer's death ruled suicide

ANAMOSA (KWWL) -

The death of an Anamosa Police officer who died while on duty earlier this month has been ruled a suicide.

According to Anamosa Police Chief Robert Simonson, Officer David Riches, 34, died in the early morning hours of October 3.

Simonson says the State Medical Examiner's Office has ruled that Riches died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Riches was a full time officer for Anamosa and a part time deputy for the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
