Through the first five games North Tama has done more just than defend its state title, the Red Hawks are leaving the competition offenseless. North Tama hasn't given up a single point this year while putting up nearly 50 points a game. The Red Hawks expecting its toughest test this week against a Postville that is winning its games by nearly 20 per contest.
Shocking news before the game even started with Jacob Wrage in a cast with a broken ankle. The former KWWL Athlete of the Week did it last week against Valley Community.
It didn't start much better. North Tama punting deep in their own territory the ball is off a fellow Red Hawk and Postville would take over on the 5 yard line.
Two plays later, Dallas Imoehl would put it in for the touchdown. It was the first points allowed all season by the Red Hawks.
In the second the Pirates pinned deep and Zach Steffens' pass is picked by Clayton Blocker and he runs it in from 4 yards out and the Red Hawks are on the board 7-6.
Ensuing kick off Cody Jarmes trying to make something happen puts it on the ground and Mitchell Boerm jumps on it at the 30.
Three plays later, Hulme redeeming himself for the pick earlier with a beautiful pass and maybe an even better catch by Brent Billerbeck for 21 yards. Failed 2 point conversion 12-7 Red Hawks.
Later in the second, Hulme takes it in from 5 yards out 2 point conversion, good 20-7 North Tama and that's where we stood at the break.
Opening drive in the third, the Pirates march 65 yards and Cody Jarmes caps the drive from 6 yards out to cut the lead 20-14.
Ensuing Red Hawk drive, Hulme throws an interception to Dallas Imoehl and he runs it down to the 20.
Four plays later, Jarmes puts it in the end zone from 3 yards out and the Pirates take a 21-20 lead.
The Pirates shut out the Red Hawks in the second half and pull the shocking upset, 31-20.
