A Cedar Rapids man has pleaded guilty to robbing a downtown bank in June.

Robert Michael Rutan, 67, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery on Thursday for the June 3 robbery of the Hills Bank and Trust branch in downtown Cedar Rapids.  He was on federal supervised release for a 1990 bank robbery at the time.

In his plea agreement, Rutan admitted that he gave a teller a note that threatened violence if he did not get the money.  Court documents say that Rutan got away with $4,970 in cash.

Rutan was arrested on June 20 in Overland, Missouri.

A sentencing date has not been set, but Rutan faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years of supervised release.
