AOTW -- Amy Ihm

The Dubuque Wahlert Golden Eagles haven't won a state championship since 2005, which by their standards seams like an eternity. After an unprecedented run of state championship from 2000 to 2005 the Golden Eagle are once again the top rated team in 3A and lead by Senior Outside hitter Amy Ihm.

"This year the senior class especially Amy's group has really figured out how to play and understand that is their going to do it, it's going to be their time to get it done." Says long time head coach Jan Thyne

Ihm is a three sport athlete at Wahlert High, and leads the number one ranked Golden Eagles in kills this season, becoming a leader for what hopes to be another state championship team.

"This is where it gets better so were just hoping to get back to that state tournament and proving ourselves and Wahlert Volleyball." Says Athlete of the Week, Amy Ihm

If playing in the MVC wasn't tough enough Dubuque Wahlert will travel to Chicago this weekend to face some of the best teams in the nation. Teams from California, Kentucky, and Illinois will all be present, but Wahlert is looking to put their own mark on the tournament.

"It forces us and challenges us to do our best and we always come back a better team after the tournament." Says coach Thyne

After the last appearance in the state tournament for the Golden Eagles netted an opening round loss in 2009, and a tough loss in the sub state game a season ago left a bad taste in their mouth, Ihm and company are ready to take another run at the state championship that has eluded them the last six seasons.
