2,900 arrested in nationwide ICE operation, 29 arrested in Iowa

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

In a week-long operation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested more than 2,900 convicted criminal aliens and fugitives across the country, including 29 in Iowa.

The enforcement operation, called "Operation Cross Check," involved more than 1,900 ICE officers and agents from 24 field offices as well as state and local law enforcement.

According to ICE, all of the people arrested last week had prior criminal convictions and many had previously been deported or ordered to leave the country.

Of the 29 people arrested in Iowa, 3 were arrested in Cedar Rapids, 2 in Tama, 1 in Tipton and 1 in Waterloo.
