Panthers roll over Western Illinois in 2011 Dome opener

Tirrell Rennie accounted for 5 touchdowns as second ranked UNI torched Western Illinois 38-10 in Missouri Valley action.

Terrell Sinkfield created the Panthers' first scoring opportunity blocking a WIU punt giving UNI the ball on Western's 12 yard line early in the first quarter.  Rennie capped the short drive with a 2 yard touchdown run.  Rennie later scored on a 12 yard run giving UNI a 14 point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Rennie's first passing touchdown came early in the second quarter when he found running back David Johnson in the end zone near the right sideline from 30 yards out.  His 4th, however, may have been the most spectacular after eluding the grip of a Leatherneck lineman, the Panther signal caller shot down the sideline on a 35 yard score giving the Panthers a 25 point lead at the half.

Rennie capped his day with a 4 yard scoring strike to Darion Howard, but his impressive showing on the stat sheet didn't matter much to him.

"Stats are always nice, and they make you look good sometimes and also make you look bad sometimes," Rennie told the media afterward, "but at the end of the day, this year, all we're worried about is that scoreboard.  We got the W, so that's all we can be pleased about right now."

The win moved the Panthers to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in MVC play.  UNI hits the road to face Missouri State next Saturday.
