Elementary kids learn the fun of exercising

Each Wednesday afternoon, Cedar Valley students have a chance to exercise and have fun with fitness instructor Kay Cervetti.

Cervetti has a health education degree and used to teach health and physical education.

During the summer, she hosted a kids camp, which led to a weekly class at Valley Lutheran School.

"We had such a popular response, such a positive response we said let's do it every week," Cervetti said.

The class is open for students of all ages -- and the only cost is a $1 donation per child.

"Two to 3:30 p.m. We go an hour and a half. We really try and wear them out and send them home," she said.

She said the kids really seem to enjoy the class.

"One mother said to me, my daughter keeps saying 'How many more days until Wednesday?'" she said.

Cervetti has taught fitness classes for 25 years, but what she most enjoys about teaching children is their energy.

"They wear me out, and then I have to rest before the next class!" she said

Besides exercise, Cervetti also tries to teach the kids about nutrition and doing good things for their body in a healthy way.

She plans to continue offering this kids fitness class throughout the school year.
