Cedar Falls native injured in Alaska car crash

A Cedar falls native now serving as a police officer in Alaska suffered serious injuries in a car crash Friday morning.

The Anchorage Police Department says Officer Randy Hughes was responding to reports of a car speeding the wrong way towards oncoming traffic.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Friday morning the suspect crashed his car into Officer Hughes. The crash pinned Hughes in his patrol car and the suspect's car started on fire.

The suspect was pulled to safety. Hughes was also freed from his patrol car and taken to a local hospital. Anchorage Police say Hughes suffered major injuries to his pelvis and foot, but is in stable condition.
