Cedar Rapids Titans to hold open tryouts

Iowa's newest football team will hold open tryouts to find undiscovered talent.

The Cedar Rapids Titans, part of the Indoor Football League, will hold their first open tryouts for the 2012 team on Oct. 8, and Oct. 9, at Sport Zone at 1100 North 18th Avenue in Hiawatha.

Registration and warm-ups begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and tryouts begin at 3:00 p.m.  Tryouts continue on Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and are expected to end at 1:00 p.m.  All players trying out should be available on both days.

The registration fee is $65 and includes a t-shirt.  Housing for those coming from out of town is available at the Clarion Hotel at 525 33rd Avenue SW for $30 per night.

To try out, you must be at least 18 years of age.  You will be evaluated in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, four cone drill, standing broad jump, agility drills, position-specific drills and 7-on-7. Kickers will be evaluated on kickoff and field goal proficiency.

"This is our first opportunity to take a look at local talent and for football players in the area to come out and see if they have what it takes to play professional football," Chris Kokalis, Titans co-owner and general manager, said in a written statement. "This is one of the first steps for the coaching staff to assemble a winning team for Cedar Rapids."

Those wanting to tryout can pre-register by visiting the Titans website www.cedarrapidstitans.com or by calling the Titans office at 319-730-6301.
