Employee assaulted in Cedar Rapids armed robbery

Police say an employee of an Arby's was assaulted early Tuesday morning during an armed robbery.

Elizabeth Conley, 43, told police that she was closing the restaurant at 1333 Edgewood Road SW at about 12:25 a.m. when she heard a knock on the back door.  She asked who was at the door and the person claimed to be a manager. When Conley opened the door, she says a man walked in with a handgun and pushed her into the office and hit her in the head several times.

The man asked Conley to open the safe, and when she said she didn't know how, Conley says he hit her several more times.

Conley says that when she tried to call 911, the man took her cell phone and ran from the restaurant.

Conley had a cut on her forehead and above her left eye.  She was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'6"-5'7", wearing a black sweatshirt and a black and white bandana.

Police had taken two people into custody and questioned them, but no arrests were made.
