Exercise helps male teens quit smoking


Adding an exercise routine to a quit smoking program may help teen boys successfully drop the habit.

Researchers at West Virginia University Healthcare compared outcomes of three quitting scenarios in teenagers. One was a brief intervention, another was a regular quit smoking program, and another added physical activity to the program.

Boys were 4 times more likely to stop smoking in the exercise arm of the study.

Interestingly, girls were more successful when exercise was not part of the smoking cessation program.
