Epworth native dies from stab wounds in Oklahoma

An Epworth native was stabbed in the mouth last week in Oklahoma and died Saturday according to his sister.

Ron Lee Scott, 58, was living in Shawnee, Okla. with his wife and stepson, Scott's sister Ty Cummings said in a phone interview Sunday.

The family is in Oklahoma pending Scott's funeral. His parents, Wayne and Jeanne Scott, still live in Epworth.

Cummings said Scott was stabbed in the mouth Monday afternoon and brought to a hospital in Shawnee, where he was flown to Oklahoma City and put on life support.

Cummings said the stab wound lacerated Scott's tongue and damaged his jugular vein, threatening his life.

Saturday afternoon, Scott was taken off life support and died.

Cummings said police have Scott's stepson, 38-year-old Nickey Sneed, in custody for allegedly committing the crime.

Cummings said Scott graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1971.

After graduation, Scott spent six months at Kirkwood Community College before joining the Navy and eventually becoming a Navy SEAL, according to his sister.

Scott moved to Shawnee for work and had been married to his wife for about five years.
