North Fayette opened the district with a big 14-12 victory at then #7 Dyersville Beckman while Cascade won its opener 35-18 over Monticello. North Fayette Hawks went right to work on their opening drive on the shoulders of senior full back Jake Greco, who scores from one yard out after a 15-play 72-yard drive.
The Cascade Cougars 2nd possession faced a critical 4th and 2 and instead of running it, quarter back Timmie Kleitsch throws it and finds #81 Sam Knepper. Knepper dodges one man and stretches for a 12-yard pick up. Three plays later, Kleitsch throws in a clutch situation to Nick Hunt who drags his feet for the tying score.
The very next drive for the Hawks called another counter play to the left side and Greco throws everyone off for a 38-yard touchdown run to a make it 14-7 Hawks.
It took only 3 plays for the Cougars quarterback to find himself in trouble and then out of trouble, scrambling for his life he unloads and finds Jordan Junk for a 62-yard touchdown pass play making the score 14 all.
Unfortunately the Hawks have Greco and it would only take him and the Hawk offense 5 plays to do another counter move. Greco would make everyone miss for a 27-yard touchdown. The Hawks go up 21-14 and win it in the end 38 to 28.
