The fifth ranked Union Knights volleyball team has jumped out to a 12-3 record and is led by a pair of juniors. Sam Barz and Payton Hilton both rank in the top ten in kills in 3A -- Barz already has 122 while Hilton has 109.
"I think we have had a lot of tough games so far and lost a few but I think we can gain from losing and getting better," said Hilton.
As the season goes on the Knights expect to be in the think of things come tournament time and a first round loss a season ago has only give the Knights motivation to take it one step further.
"Last year it was just like we made it to the state tournament, yeah, but now it's like were working that much harder to do good at the state tournament," said Barz.
Until tournament time the Knights and head coach Brian Jesse knows they have to improve one day at a time.
"Lets keep getting better everyday and we'll see where were at when tournament time comes around see who we have to play but like I said. I'm not saying were better than any team but on a given night we can go up against any team in 3A," he said.
