Finally! Independence voters approve new junior-senior high school

It's been a long time coming, but Independence is finally going to get a new junior-Senior High School.

Independence voters Tuesday gave their overwhelming approval for the new school building, by voting in favor of the issuance of up to $12,480,000 in General Obligation Bonds.

Several bond issues in recent years have failed, but this one received 69.3 % approval. 3,522 voters cast ballots on the school bond issue. 2,441 voted in favor of the school. Only 1,081 voted against it. The school bond issue needed the super majority of at least 60% for approval and got 69.3 % of the voters to vote 'yes.'

In the races for Independence School Board, Rusty Donnelly scored a victory, defeating Charles McCardle, 2,313-918, to win the Director District #3 Seat.  Brian Eddy won the Director District #1 Seat, running unopposed. Eric B. Smith also ran unopposed to win the Director District #2 Seat.
