UPDATE: Dike 9-year-old dies in ATV crash

NEW HARTFORD (KWWL) -

A 9-year-old boy from Dike died when his ATV crashed Sunday afternoon.  The Grundy County Sheriff says Tate Johnson died instantly when he lost control of his ATV and it rolled over. 

Authorities say it happened in a field in the 33000 block of 110th Street 5 miles southeast of New Hartford around noon on Sunday.

Counselors were on hand to talk with students and staff at the Dike-New Hartford school district on Monday. According to Superintendent Larry Hunt, Tate's mother is a teacher in the district and Tate has siblings in the school district.

The funeral is being handled by Abels Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Dike United Methodist Church. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dike High School Gymnasium.
