Iowa remembers 9/11

Police, fire and clergy gathered for a September 11 memorial ceremony at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The program, presented by the Inter-Religious Council of Linn County began with a piece of steel from the fallen Twin Towers being presented by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Various officers, clergy and even students spoke at the event.

The focus of the speeches was to remember, reflect and respect the terrorist attack 10 years ago.

The afternoon ended with the sounding of a bell and a three-round gun volley to honor the fallen officers of 9/11.

A similar ceremony was also held in Des Moines earlier Sunday.

The fire department in North Liberty also commemorated the day by hanging a large American flag over a bridge.
