A game that started as an offensive shoot-out ended as a defensive showdown with North Fayette slipping past #3 Dyersville Beckman 14-12.
Both teams scored on their first drives of the game as Conner Golden connected with Ty Troutman on a 41 yard scoring strike to give Beckman a quick 6-0 lead. North Fayette marched right back with a long drive capped by quarterback Tom Heying's keeper. The Hawks added the extra point to go up 7-6.
North Fayette produced another scoring drive ending in a Jake Greco 2 yard touchdown run for a 14-6 halftime lead.
Both defenses came up strong during the third with no points going up on the board. North Fayette suffered a big blow in the period losing Heying to a game ending knee injury.
Beckman finally managed to find the endzone on a 5 yard run by Lucas Jacque to pull within 2. On the conversion try, Golden scrambled to the zone, but was stopped short of the line by Hawk linebacker Jake Paulson which proved to be a game winning play.
The loss was the first of the year for Beckman, while North Fayette rebounded from last week's defeat against Oelwein.
