Thompson sets single game rushing record; propels Little Hawks over rival Trojans

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Tim Dwight.  Rob Thein.  And now, Ronald Thompson.

The Little Hawk senior cemented his name among some of the school's all-time greats, surpassing Thein's single game school rushing record, and helping the Little Hawks to a 42-24 win over rival Iowa City West.

City High relied on Thompson early and often, breaking away from the Trojan defense in the first quarter on a 43 yard touchdown run to put City High up 14-0.

Thompson added a spectacular 71 yard run in the second quarter.  He would later cap off the drive with a seven yard score, his third touchdown of the game.  The Little Hawks took a 28-3 lead into halftime.

By the time the final horn sounded, Thompson had amassed 360 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.

City High has now beaten rival West in the Battle for the Boot eight straight times.
