UPDATED: Police make arrest in Waterloo beating death

A Waterloo man faces charges in the death of Marcellus Andrews.

On Thursday afternoon police arrested 19-year-old Paris Anding on Second Degree Murder charges.

Police say Anding was involved in the August 19th attack on 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews. Andrews died from injuries he received in an early morning beating in the 200 block of Cottage Street.

In a criminal complaint, Anding admitted to swinging and hitting Andrews with a baseball bat.  An autopsy shows Marcellus Andrews died from being hit with a blunt object.

Under Iowa law, Paris Anding could face up to 50 years in prison. Friday morning, the judge set bond for the murder charge at $500,000.

We spoke with his cousin and she says the charges are unfair.

"There was a mob of people out there fighting so we just got to find out and see what happens and get to the bottom of it," said Geneatha Harrington, "I don't think they should be charging him with second degree murder. They need to find out what's really going on before they bring charges like that on anyone."

Anding was also booked on an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault in a non-related charge.  Bond was set at $10,000.00 for that warrant.
