An Iowa City woman has been charged with stealing more than half the money from a $60,000 trust fund.

From 2000 to 2010, Patricia Ann Miller, 64, was the trustee for a $60,000 trust fund and was the only person authorized to write checks on the account.  The money was to be used for the beneficiaries living expenses.

According to police, Miller wrote checks on the account for her own expenses including rent and credit cards.

Police say that during an interview, Miller admitted to taking $30,366.39 from the account, but hoped to pay it back.

Miller is charged with first degree theft.
