It took the Cyclone's 4 quarters of football to get a 20-19 win Saturday over UNI, and while coach Paul Rhoads was pleased with the effort of his guys he knows there is a lot on the line when Iowa Comes to town Saturday.
"More importantly it's a game we have got whipped in the last two years. Nobody likes to get whipped. We look forward to playing better as a football team ourselves bottom line," said Rhoads.
After that slow start this past Saturday the Cyclones know they will have to get going early against Iowa, and Linebacker Jake Knott it starts with the defense.
"Were have got to get them contained right away and we got to have a good first series on defense, stop them and hopefully set the momentum for the rest of the game."
While avoiding game week distractions will be difficult, Iowa State understands preparation is key.
"They don't really change thinks up to much from year to year they do pretty much the same thing they are just so good at what they do and so were just going to have to come prepared and play a really physical fast game," said Knott.
While Iowa State has beaten the likes of Texas and Texas A&M over the last few years they have not faired well against Iowa and they say that is in large part because of the turnover battle. Control the turnovers and control the game.
