Flag at AP honors veteran

A new flag was raised at Ed Thomas Field before Friday night's Aplington-Parkersburg football game.

The flag was donated by the Schrage family in honor of Lawrence Schrage, a World War II veteran who passed away several years ago.

Schrage's son, Gary Schrage, grandsons Andrew and Mike, and Gary's son-in-law Bob Gilroy presented and raised the flag.

Through the American Legion post, the Schrage family has helped raise the flag at AP football games for about 30 years.

"Ed called one day and said well it didn't look right putting the flag up before the game and everything, do you have a way to do this. I said yeah we'll get the Legion members together." said Gary Schrage who donated the flag.

Schrage served in Vietnam for the U.S. Army. His two sons served in Iraq as part of the National Guard.
