Iowa native wins World Track Championship

Wednesday was a great day for American track and field-- and the state of Iowa at the World Track and Field championships in Daegu, South Korea..

Iowa native Jenny Barringer-Simpson, whose specialty is the steeple chase, wasn't expected to be a factor in the 1500 meter race--but she shocked the world!

Simpson who was born in Webster City and also lived in Fort Dodge and Ames-- put on a tremendous kick in the homestretch to win the race.

Jenny Simpson becomes the first United States woman in 28 years (since Mary Decker-Slaney in 1983) to win a world title in the 15-hundred meters. What's really amazing is that Simpson entered the competition with the 25th best time.
