The Cedar Valley United Way is kicking off this year's capital campaign. Nearly 500 attended Wednesday's "Rally in the Valley" luncheon at Five Sullivan Brothers in Waterloo to get those fundraising efforts underway. This year, the United Way is aiming to raise $3.2 million, a six percent increase from last year.
"The dollars that are raised in the Cedar Valley stay in the Cedar Valley. And so last year, we funded about 100 programs and the programs can be anything from mentoring programs to food bank programs to literacy programs, substance abuse programs, and the list goes on and on," said Sheila Baird, president of the Cedar Valley United Way.
And helping encourage folks to make a donation, the "Blues Brothers" featuring our own Ron Steele performed Wednesday. (See the performance here) Ron is co-chairing this year's United Way fundraising. The capital campaign runs through the end of January.
