CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Florida man has pleaded guilty to promoting a fake concert in Dubuque.

The United States Department of Justice says Scott Elkins, 38, of Tampa, Florida, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids federal court to one count of mail fraud.

In the plea agreement, Elkins admitted that he and others devised the scheme to get money from people by promoting and selling tickets to a concert they knew wouldn't happen.

Court documents show that Elkins mailed flyers, tickets and money orders to a Dubuque radio station.

The Department of Justice says Elkins was involved with similar schemes in Indiana, Alabama, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, and Ohio.

A sentencing date has not been set.  Elkins faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
