Chickasaws win home opener

In a 3A-2A battle, longtime rivals Crestwood and New Hampton would open the season in Chickasaw country. Anytime these two schools meet on the gridiron you can expect a hard hitting, physical affair.

Both of these programs are looking to restore some honor after missing the postseason in 2010.

In the first quarter New Hampton would take it to Crestwood. Quarterback Mitch Frerichs puts up a duck, but tight end Blake Wiltse is an expert duck hunter and would pull the ball down in the end zone. With the extra point the Chickasaws go up early seven to nothing.

In the second quarter Frerichs would throw a screen pass to Brandon Tenge and Tenge would show his power and run the sidelines into the end zone. The extra point would be high but it's still good. New Hampton would go up 14 to nothing.

In the second quarter the Cadets would put together a drive. Quarterback Kolter Freidhof would make a nice fake to full back Jacob Jenson, but he would keep it himself and go straight up the middle to the 40 yard line. A nice gain but the drive would stall.

The Chickasaws would go into halftime up 14-0.

Despite a second half comeback New Hampton would be too much for Crestwood on the first week of Friday Night Football winning 34-13.
