State judge recommends in favor of Waterloo Standardized Dress Code

A judge has recommended in favor of the Waterloo standardized dress code.

The Iowa Department of Education's Administrative Law Judge will submit the recommendation to the Board of Education at its meeting next month. The judge heard testimony from the Waterloo school district and parents opposing the dress code back in June.

The district argued the policy is necessary for student safety. Parents Rick and Teesha Peters argued it is a uniform policy and uniforms are not allowed under state law.

The Board of Education will review the case and the judge's recommendation in September and make a final ruling.

The dress code was revised after ruled illegal by the Iowa Board of Education earlier this year.

All Waterloo Community Schools are currently enforcing the Standardized Dress Code.
