UI Police receive report of sexual assault

University of Iowa Police say they received a report on Tuesday that a female student was sexually assaulted over the weekend.

According to a press release, a third party reported a female student was sexually assaulted in Daum Residence Hall the weekend of Aug. 20.

Police say they haven't received enough information to launch an investigation at this time.

Because of the report, UI Police are mandated to issue a timely warning.

They recommend that people walk in groups and report crimes immediately by calling 911.  Students are also encouraged to use NITE Ride, Cambus or other transportation services that are available. There are 22 emergency telephones around the UI campus and a single push of the illuminated button calls officers, allows dispatchers to hear the situation, and triggers the bright blue strobe light at the top of a 9-foot pole.

UI Police also offer Rape Aggression Defense courses as well as personal safety information through a Crime Prevention Specialist.  Visit http://police.uiowa.edu for more information.

WhistleSAFE whistles are also available at the RVAP office, from the UI Main Library, at University Counseling service or any of the UI residence halls.

If you have any information regarding this crime, call 319-335-5022 or Iowa City Crimestoppers at 319-358-TIPS.
