A Greene man charged with murdering his wife has entered a plea of not guilty.

Thomas Petersen entered the plea in a written arraignment in Butler County Monday morning.

The 39-year-old is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Judy Renee Petersen to death in their home more than two months ago.

Judy Renee Peterson was found dead in her home on June 4.  Soon after Iowa law enforcement tracked Peterson to South Dakota.

He was held in custody there for two months.

Through the course of the investigation of the death of Mrs. Petersen, officers recovered knives consistent with Mrs. Petersen's wounds, as well as bloody clothing that belonged to Mr. Petersen.

Investigators also learned that Mr. and Mrs. Petersen had a history of conflict.

Petersen is being held on a $500,000 bond in the Butler County Jail.  Trial is set to start October 18th at 9:00 a.m.

Thomas Petersen also faces two counts of attempted murder in South Dakota, after deputies were injured trying to take him into custody.  Proceedings on those charges will take place after his murder trial in Iowa.
