Iowa pilot killed at KC air show; was to perform in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Organizers and many who will fly in the Thunder in the Valley Airshow next weekend in Waterloo will be doing so with heavy hearts. One of the pilots that would have performed at the air show died after his plane crashed at an air show in Kansas City. The pilot's name is Bryan Jensen. He's an Atlantic native who now lives in Florida. His red biplane was at the end of an acrobatic maneuver when it tailed downward and then nose-dived into a grass field, bursting into flames. Jensen had been doing stunt flying for more than 10 years. Jensen was set to perform at the Waterloo Regional Airport next weekend. Organizers of the airshow say they're hearts go out to Jensen's family and the airshow community - which is tight-knit. They say there will be a memorial tribute to Jensen and his family in the program but the show will go on. They say the pilots know every time they get in their plane they're taking a risk but that accidents are very rare.
