Iowa drops from Interstate Rail Commission

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Governor Branstad has refused to renew Iowa's membership to a group of states that want a passenger rail.

It costs $15,000 per year to be a part of the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.

The Iowa legislature cut funding for the membership - and Governor Branstad says he's simply following lawmakers' wishes.

Branstad's decision comes even after advocates for the high speed rail project said they would pay the cost.
