New Cy-Hawk Trophy unveiled

The new symbol of the annual Cy-Hawk football rivalry was unveiled to mixed reviews, and by mixed, we mean mostly negative.

The new trophy, unveiled by the Iowa Corn Growers Association, features a family gathered around a basket of corn.  According to an I.C.G.A. press release, the new trophy represents Iowans as "caring, trustworthy, committed, and compassionate, stewards, mentors and educators."

The new trophy has accomplished one thing, however, bringing the Cyclone and Hawkeye fan bases together.  Reaction to the trophy on online message boards dedicated to both teams has been almost universally negative.  Most of the fans posting seem to feel the trophy is too sentimental for an intense football rivalry.

The trophy will be awarded for the first time when the Hawkeyes travel to Ames to face the Cyclones on Sept. 10.
