Eye of the Needle helps students find uniforms

Patricia King knows how it feels to be a struggling mom.

"When I was raising my children, a lot of times I had to carry them around in a wagon because I didn't have enough to ride the bus," King said.

She started Eye of the Needle in 2006, helping hundreds of people with anything they needed at no cost. Now her organization has grown to helping over a thousand people in just a year.

But with more Waterloo schools requiring uniforms, the needs are changing.

"Even before the uniforms, people came to get regular clothes. There were people coming and asking for clothes they could wear to school. So I knew that once they started the uniforms policy, there were people who were going to need uniforms," King said.

In just one week, King said she has handed out about 150 school uniforms. Donations aren't keeping up with demand, and sometimes, there's nothing to give.

"When we receive them, we will give them to you because this is basically the way we have it. We don't have a big sum of money we are sitting on. We don't have all these funds. When we receive money when we do it, we buy it exactly for what it's used for," King said.

Patricia King asks every family to make an appointment so she can help them accordingly.

The Eye of the Needle is located on the seventh floor at 607 Sycamore Street.
