Crack closes Lansing Bridge

Posted:
LANSING (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Transportation says a crack is forcing the closure of the bridge over the Mississippi River at Lansing.

The heavily-traveled Black Hawk Bridge will be closed until further notice.

The DOT says during a regular inspection, a consultant found the crack in a floor beam under the bridge deck.
The nearest bridges over the river are La Crosse to the north and Marquette and Prairie du Chien to the south of Lansing.

The bridge last closed in July 2010, when a barge hit the bridge and actually blocked the entire channel.

Remember all Iowa bridges were under close inspection after the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis in 2007.

It's being reported the same firm that investigated the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis will also investigate the collapse of the stage at the Indiana State Fair that happened August 13th.
