Ed Thomas book hits stores

The Sacred Acre:  The Ed Thomas story has hit bookshelves in stores across the country, although it isn't expected to sit there very long.

By 11:00 Tuesday morning, preorders and book sales had whittled down the display at Barnes and Noble in Coralville.

Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City has ordered one thousand copies in anticipation of high sale volumes after a formal book launch in Parkersburg on Friday.

"As the attention builds toward Friday, I think we'll get a lot more interest, and I think after the event, you'll see even more interest," said Terry Cain, manager at Prairie Lights Books.

Written by Christian author and best-selling writer Mark Tabb, the book tells the inspirational story of Thomas' far-reaching impact as a community leader, and how his messages of love, faith and forgiveness prevailed in the face of adversity.

Former Iowa Hawkeye football player and current Iowa City Regina high school football coach Marv Cook says he'll use the book as a teaching tool for his players.

"The lessons that he instilled into his football players was truly amazing and it will help you be successful not just in athletics but in life," Cook said.

The book sells for $22.99

It also features a foreword by former Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy.

Dungy is expected to be at the book launch this Friday at Aplington-Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg.

It's open to the public.

Things kick-off at 6:30 p.m. The book signing is expected to start at 7 p.m. Friday.
