A Dubuque woman has accepted a plea agreement in the death of her 20-month-old daughter.

On Monday, Tamelia Harris pleaded guilty to six charges including child endangerment resulting in death and desecration of a corpse.

Harris was sentenced to 78 years in prison.

The investigation went on for seven months before Harris was charged in her daughter Cecilia's death.

After searching a fire pit in Tamelia's backyard, police discovered small human bones. DNA tests compared those remains with those of Cecilia's parents, Tamelia Harris and Tobias Drummond. Results indicate that the remains are 9.95 trillion times more likely to be the biological offspring of Harris and Drummond.

In the criminal complaint, Harris is accused of knowingly acting in a manner that created a substantial risk and intentionally used unreasonable force, torture or cruelty that resulted in bodily injury and resulted in the death of Cecilia.

Monday's hearing was held in Manchester because the judge ordered to preside over the case was previously scheduled to hold court in Delaware County.
