Update: Flood-damaged house destroyed by fire

Fire crews returned a second time to a flood-damaged Cedar Rapids home.

Neighbors reported a fire at 902 16th Ave. SE came just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday. When crews arrived, they found flames coming out of all the windows and openings in the back of the home. The house has been empty since the Floods of 2008. Officials are investigating the fire as an arson.

Crews returned to the same address around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Crews say the second blaze was likely caused by hot spots on the second floor. Firefighters were not able to reach the second story during their first visit because the stairwell was burned away and the structural stability of the building was in question. The second blaze destroyed what remained of the roof of the home.

The City Assessors' Website shows the home is owned by Daniel and Cassandra Isaac.  No value is listed for the home.
